Maritime Transport Ltd. (Maritime) has strengthened its
intermodal capacity with the introduction of a new rail service operating
between DP World London Gateway (LGP) and its terminal at East Midlands Gateway
(EMG) as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional flexibility
and a full end-to-end logistics solution to its valued customers.
Maritime’s tenth rail service to date commenced on Monday 26th October, and runs 5 days a week from Monday to Friday with a weekly capacity of
up to 320 containers. Three existing services already run daily from EMG, including
two to the Port of Felixstowe hauled by DB Cargo UK and Freightliner, and one
to the Port of Southampton hauled by GB Railfreight.
The good news comes just weeks after Maritime announced its acquisition
of Wincanton Container Logistics. Under the deal, which came into full effect
on 17th October, all employees and assets have been transferred to
Maritime who will continue to work with Wincanton plc as a strategic partner
supporting a number of Wincanton’s customers’ international supply chains. The
combined business has created a road fleet of 2,000 Maritime vehicles with
3,000 employees and 37 transport and container depots across the UK.
Announcing the new LGP - EMG service, Maritime’s Managing
Director – Intermodal and Terminals, John Bailey, stated: ‘We continue to see
remarkable growth in our rail volumes which truly reflects our ability to
deliver highly-efficient and reliable services to our customers and their businesses.
We are delighted to announce this new service which opens up another transport
route to the East Midlands region, and look forward to seeing the significant
environmental and cost-saving benefits it will bring.’
In just 18 months, Maritime has extended its rail offering for its growing customer-base, and now operates or has contractual commitment on the following services:
