The prestigious award, sponsored by the Institution of Railway Operators, recognises the innovative intermodal partnership between two of the of the UK’s leading road and rail operators, which continues to go from strength to strength.
The 23rd Rail Business Awards took place across the 22nd – 25th February as an online broadcast to celebrate major achievements in the UK rail industry across technical projects, safety, and marketing and customer service, as well as the success of individuals and teams who make such a difference to the industry.

Maritime Intermodal, the rail freight division of Maritime Transport, commenced its ground-breaking partnership with DB Cargo UK on 1st April 2019, which immediately saw it acquire four dedicated rail services out of the ports of Felixstowe and Southampton, and two rail terminals at Trafford Park and Wakefield. The alliance between both operators has seen significant growth since; to date, DB Cargo UK operates nine daily services into Maritime’s rail terminals in Trafford Park, Wakefield, Tamworth (BIFT), and its 17-acre strategic rail freight interchange at East Midlands Gateway. Maritime has extended its rail offering for its growing customer base, and now operates eleven daily rail services.
